North Walsham Photographic Group recently organised a public photographic competition. 182 entries were received and these were judged by professional judge – Bill Day CAPGB.
Each entry has been displayed as part of the Groups’ Annual Exhibition of Members’ Work which was held in the Atrium Gallery, North Walsham between Tuesday 20th and Saturday 24th August.
A prize winners’ ceremony for the public competition was held at a special evening opening of the Exhibition on Tuesday 20th. The competition for the NWPG members continued until Saturday 24th , when the result of the public vote for ‘the Peoples’ Choice’ decided that Jim Crucefix’s print of ‘Wind Turbines’ was to be the winning print from the 77 entries on display
Bill Day gave a short critique of the winning competition prints, explaining to the public the strong points of the photographs which he had judged to be the best . The winner of the adult class was Tony Howes with his entry entitled ‘Barn Owl in the Mist’
22 entries were received into the junior class and the judge found it most difficult to make his final choice. Entrants’ ages ranged from 4 to 15. The winner was finally chosen as 12 year old Caitlin Ricketts with her print entitled ‘Reflections of Fairhaven. The first prize in the junior class turned out to be a Canon Ixus compact camera. Second prize was won by 6 year-old Samuel Nutt with his photograph of a Dinosaur and third prize was given to 9 year-old Declan Rickets with his photo ‘Tracks in the Sand’

Over 100 people attended the evening event, which was also visited by Thordis Fridriksson from Radio Norfolk. More than 200 people visited the exhibition on the 5 open days.
